Multiple Photos in a Post with PicasaWeb
March 18, 2008 ·
If your blog posts include lots of photos, you’re probably getting frustrated uploading them one by one and still not being able to create a uniform look on your post.
The PicasaWeb plugin allows you to upload as many photos as you like all at once, you type a caption for each one on one screen, then just paste one line of code into your post. Photos appear uniform (you choose the exact size you want) with a caption below each one. When you upload your photos, you create a new album so each post is linking to a particular album. See http://www.southcityauctions.co.nz/catalogue/ as an example of what your post will look like.
How to setup your Blog
First of all you will need to download the KB Easy PicasaWeb plugin, then upload and activate it on your WordPress blog. Once activated, go to Options in your blog admin and you will see a new page called KB Picasa. Select a size for your photos (the ones on South City Auctions site are 160 pixels wide), tick if you want captions to appear and tick to display your photos in 2 columns (unless you want to display really large photos). Click on the Update Options button and you’re ready to go.
How to Setup PicasaWeb
- Go to www.picasaweb.google.com
- Login to your Google account (you can setup one up if you don’t already have one)
- Click ‘Upload Photos’
- Click on ‘Create a new album’ on popup window
- Give the album a title (this will become part of the link address so something obvious or keyword-rich is best)
- Add a description of the album if you want to.
- Click ‘Continue’ button
- Click ‘Add Photos’ button
- Select the images you need from your computer (hold shift key to select all, or control key to select individual photos.
- Once all the items of interest are showing on the screen, click on ‘Upload’. (this will take a couple of minutes depending on size of files)
- Click on edit captions to add captions to all your images.(try to keep the captions short so you don’t throw the layout out)
- Choose ‘Link to this Album’ text on left sidebar.
- Copy the link code under ‘Paste link in email’.
- Open your new blog post on your blog and paste this code (make sure you are in code view and you paste it on it’s own line).
- Publish the post
Good luck!

Picasa’s slideshow feature is also brilliant. You just create a new album, upload photos to it and give them each a caption, then select Embed slideshow and copy the code into your website. See an example at http://www.pandagraphic.co.nz
The latest version of WordPress allows you to upload photos to a post or page, then click on an Insert Gallery button to display all the photos on your page, cropped to uniform size and with captions.
The only downside of this is that the images are stored on your server instead of the Picasa site so your hosting package may eventually go up.
I have just written an article about the Next Generation Gallery Plugin for WordPress. This allows you to display photos on your website in a multitude of different layouts including albums, thumbnail galleries, sidebar galleries and slideshows. It is all managed inside WordPress. Read the article…
