Feedburner to Promote Your Blog

July 30, 2008 ·

Feedburner gives you an easy and effective way to promote your blog content on your website and through email subscriptions.

To get started, go to www.feedurner.com and claim your blog by typing the address of your blog feed. You get this by clicking on the orange rss button on your blog or clicking on a link titled Entries RSS on your blog’s sidebar. Copy the website url complete with http:// which appears at the top of your website browser. Give your feed a title and setup a username and password. Once your account is active, select the Publicize tab and start promoting your blog content to the world. You can get to the Publicize section at anytime by clicking on the My Feeds link, then on the title of your feed.

Email Subscriptions

Add a subscription box to your website or the sidebar of your blog allowing your visitors and customers to keep up to date with all your news. Subscribers are automatically send an email everytime you write a new post on your blog. You can view, download and manage subscribers from inside Feedburner. You can also link to a logo or image on your website so your emails are branded. To setup this service:

  1. Click on Email Subscriptions under the Publicize tab
  2. Copy the subscription form code and paste onto your website or a text box under Widgets on your blog.
  3. Follow the sub-headings to customise branding, email address and new subscription message.

Headline Animator

Also under the Publicize tab, this creates mini banners displaying your latest blog post titles. Visitors to your website can click on the titles to read the article/post on your blog. You can also use your banners as an email signature to attract new visitors to your blog. To activate:

  1. Go to Headline Animator under the Publicize tab
  2. Customise your banner’s layout, text sizes, colour etc
  3. Copy and paste the code into your website where you want the banners to appear
  4. See examples at the top right of pages at www.pandagraphic.co.nz
  5. You could also give this code to other websites

Buzz Boost – Display Your Blog Feed inside Existing Website Layout

I have written a previous article on how to do this using rss2html but it is a lot easier to do using Feedburner and the layout is much better.

See an example of blog feed displayed using Feedburner at:

To activate this service:

  1. Click on Buzz Boost under the Publicize tab
  2. Customise, feed title, no. posts to display, show full or part of each post, show date or not
  3. Click on Activate and copy the code into your website.

Pingshot only takes a second to activate and will notify web-based feed reading services such as Technorati and Google blog search when you publish a new post.

Hi Jo, the feedburner link from blog to website sounds like a really good idea. Lets go ahead with it.
But first, I have a question:

    I have two blogs.

    1) http://www.nzfarming.wordpress.com
This blog gives details and information of our Bed and Breakfast and the local Dargaville area.

    2) http://www.nzliving.wordpress.com is a pictorial diary of everyday life, wherever that takes us!

Can we link both of these blogs to the one website?

Forgot to mention that Google has just acquired Feedburner – even more good reasons to use them to get your blog posts more traffic.

    Hi Kate,
I have added a page to your website which automatically displays the most recent 10 posts from both your blogs. See http://www.kaurivale.co.nz/blog.htm

You can also get a widget for your website to display your most recent blog posts. See an example at http://www.littleboystoys.co.nz/shop/active-sports.htm.
Just login to Feedburner, click on your feed, then Publicize, then Spring Widget.

Is there a way to feed a picture and text from a blog to a website, or is it text only?

    Hi Hillary,
You should be able to show images too by using the excerpt box under each WordPress post. Your General settings under Reading should be set to summary rather than Full Post. See my feed http://feeds2.feedburner.com/WordPressWebsites. Add yout text summary and an image. To show an Image just place that image in the excerpt using html. Make sure you include the http etc. View sample html…
