Google Launches Intuitive Internet Browser

September 4, 2008 ·

Google Chrome is the new internet browser from Google which you can download from the Google homepage. You use it instead of Internet Explorer for everything internet related.

It’s like a Google search and browser all in one. You can type a www address you know or just a set of keywords. Either way, the browser starts guessing what you are looking for in much the same way as predictive text guesses what you are trying to spell on your mobile phone. This makes finding websites and online information even faster. When you have a web page open, you can click the page icon to the right of the menu bar and select find in this page to search the contents of the website you are visiting.

The browser’s homepage shows screen shots of the websites you visit all the time, so you can just click on the image to get directly to these websites. See my Google Chrome homepage on the right. The homepage also shows a list of recent bookmarks you can click on and a search box for searching your browsing history. You can bookmark a page with a simple click of the star symbol next to the menu bar.

Every time you want to open a new website, you just click on the + button to open it in a new tab. When you follow a link to another website, it opens in a new tab instead of a new window. You therefore avoid have lots of different windows open showing different websites you are looking at. It also means there is less chance of accidentally closing a website you want to keep browing.

To make Google Chrome your default browser, just click on the Tool icon to the right of the menu bar, select Options and click on the button at the bottom. There are a few other great options like asking you if you would like a password saved before saving it and notifying you that a pop up is blocked instead of you just wondering why things you click on wont open.

I’ve only been using it for a couple of days so far but it’s already making my life easier. Let me know what you think.
