Many Writers One Blog
September 24, 2008 ·
Did you know that you can setup any number of people/staff/authors/contributors on your WordPress blog to write their own blog posts?
Users have their own username and password and they can only perform tasks as dictated by their user role (setup by you). Posts they have written display their username on your blog. Following is a summary of the different roles users can have on a blog:
WordPress Blog Roles
- Administrator – Access to all admin features, including writing pages and approving comments.
- Editor – Can write their own posts and publish and manage theirs and others’ posts
- Author – Can publish and manage their own posts
- Contributor – Can write and manage their own posts but not publish (posts have to be approved and published by administrator or Editor)
- Subscriber – Can make comments
Who should Write Posts?
It is a good idea to create a blog category for each Author and also to include photos and profiles of each main author somewhere obvious such as the sidebar or About Us page.
Here are some ways in which multiple writers can help improve your blog:
- Staff specialising in different areas of your business
- Your business/club operates in different regions
- People who offer services/products complimentary to yours (they can increase traffic to their own websites through their profile page)
- Experts in issues of concern to your clients
- Anyone who can contribute useful content to your blog
How to Setup Users on your WordPress blog
- Login to your blog admin
- Click on the Users link on the far right of the page
- Select Add New User
- Enter name, email address, nickname to appear on blog posts and choose what level they will have access to (do you want them to be able to publish their own posts or do you want to read them first and approve?)
- Create a username and password for them to login to write their posts
