June 3, 2009 ·

This plugin makes it easy to create a professional slideshow of photos or important information and display it on your website’s homepage.

Why You Should Have a Featured Content Gallery…

This is a brilliant way to give your website visitors a visual overview of your products and services without them having to click on anything. All images on the slideshow should be a uniform size and can be photos only or a combination of images and text to get your key messages across.

How to Add FCG Plugin to Your WordPress Website

  1. Download the Plugin
  2. Activate in Your Plugins Folder
  3. Unless you have a Studio Press website theme (most of these include the FCG Plugin in the homepage layout), you will need to add a snippet of code to your home.php template (see below)
  4. Go to Settings/Featured Content Gallery to setup options.
  5. Crop photos or images to a size which will fit on your homepage (the examples above are 607 x 233pixels, 668 x 176pixels, 570 x 300pixels)
  6. Upload each image to a page or post on your website, copy the image url
  7. Add a custom field on that page/post called articleimg and paste the image url in the value field.
  8. Check the post/page ID number at the end of the url in your browser.
  9. Add this to the Featured Content Gallery Configuration page.

NOTES:
You can only add one FCG image to any given page or post.
The featured Content gallery will not display until you have at least 2 images loaded and 2 IDs listed.
The order of the post IDs determines the order of the images shown.
Jpegs and png files work well but not gif files.
Featured content gallery and wp e-commerce plugin are not compatible.

Automatic Option

You can also setup your featured content gallery to show images and the first few lines of text from all your posts in a certain category. See the left side of the setup screenshot for this option.

Great article! I also use Wondershare Movie Story to make photo slideshow and upload to youtube, then you could embed youtube video on web site with the code youtube provides.
